Tips to Rank locally with local SEO
How to get your website to rank locally with local SEO to improve your search engine results.
We all want our website to rank well in search results, it’s how you will grow your business. But, trying to get your website to rank nationally potentially makes your life much, much harder. And, more expensive, plus it will take longer too!
On the other hand you could start your venture in SEO by getting your site to rank in the local search results. And, it’s often, not as hard as you may think.
Local SEO focuses on specific geographic areas depending on what your ideal clients are looking for. A plumber for example may want to focus on towns and local villages. A specialist health and safety consultant may cover a wider area such as a county.
Focusing on a smaller area (initially at least) will result in you having less competitors in the search results. This means you are more likely to generate traffic to your website for your chosen search terms much quicker and easier than if you were to search for that type of company nationally.
Location based pages
Some SEO agencies will tell you that location based pages won’t help. But, if done correctly they will help. Now we aren’t suggesting you simply add a new web page for each town and village you want to rank for. Especially if you want to cover a large area. But for a small area a number of local pages may help.
Each page should add value to the reader.
Things to consider including on location-based pages:
- Local parking
- Address and contact details, consider adding a local map to make it simple to find you.
- Details of the location’s employees, such as the branch manager, local engineer etc. This could include photos, contact details etc
- Local testimonials from the public or businesses. For businesses could you include business logos with their permission?
- Link to your local Google Business Profile
- Local case study.
- Images of your team or assets such as business vehicles in the area, including appropriate Alt Tags.
- Special offers that apply to that location
- In the press locally – add local links to articles.
You probably wouldn’t want to list this page in your website menu, but each page should have internal links to the page and from the page to related pages within the website. This may vary however depending on the business, for example if you are a tyre fitting company with multiple locations your clients would likely benefit from easy navigation from the websites menu to their local page.
The content for local website pages shouldn’t simply be replicated and the location name changed for each page. Keep your content different on each local SEO page you create.
