4 Reasons why having a blog is good for your business

Why having a blog is good for your business

There are tons of reasons to utilise a blog on your website. Don’t be put off if you hate writing or don’t think you are creative enough or have no time, we will come to that shortly!

Firstly, a blog is an easy way to answer all questions your potential clients may have in relation to working with you or about your products or services. Easily link to the relevant blog posts from your main website pages wherever you think some extra information would be helpful for those that want to read a little more. By doing this you aren’t overloading your main web pages with tons of info that only a certain number of people will want to read. You can add case studies, information about your industry and any changes that may impact your clients, the list is endless for what you can post about

.

Reason number two for having a blog is Google will thank you for it, with your search engine rankings. Having a blog and posting regularly will enable Google to see that you are maintaining your website and are providing useful information to the public. Not only your posts but your website will benefit from eventually showing higher in the search engine results, putting your business in front of more potential customers – for free!

Number 3. Getting reputable companies and organisations to link to your website is known as a backlink. If you are writing helpful, informative blog posts you can ask organisations if they would like to share your content in their publications etc if they link back to your site. Backlinks will also have an impact on your search engine rankings. This is due to the more backlinks you have to your website; the more Google will view you as an expert in your field and therefore they are more likely to promote you in the search engine results.

The bonus 4th reason to blog is it will give you content for your social media posts!

So there are 4 great reasons to get writing, but what if you have no time, hate writing and have no idea what to possibly post about?

Think about every question you have ever been asked about what you do, your business and how you help your clients, what problems you solve and how. These are great places to start, by writing a blog post for each.

Utilise a website called Answer The Public. You can add a search term your potential clients would ask about and you will get lots of potential options for you to write about based on what the public search for.

There is even software now that can generate you a blog post, which you can then simply read through, adjust slightly if required and hey presto, you have a blog post written for you using AI!

And finally, you can hire Virtual Assistants, virtual marketing experts or even your staff to write posts for you and needn’t cost the earth or take loads of time.

Blog mistakes to avoid:

Nobody wants to sit and read your blog, yes I know I have just told you what a good idea they are, but when it comes to promoting your blog don’t expect to highlight in your customer newsletter or on your social media ‘NEW BLOG POST – READ IT NOW’. This is not compelling at all. You don’t even need to mention the fact it is a blog post. Just ensure you give it an intriguing title that will hit home with the people you want to read it and then include the link. Without a reason to read it, then no one will. Tease your audience with what they will learn, the tips you will give and the time and effort you will save them by sharing your knowledge and experience so they can get results faster.

Ensure you post regularly. That might be once a month. Once a week or more but be consistent!
